Louis XV kingwood commode en tombeau
 

Fine Louis XV kingwood commode en tombeau.  The commode has three rows of drawers, with half drawers in the frieze.  The concave, convex, concave shape of the drawer fronts is echoed on the sides.  The commode is mounted with fine well chased bronzes, probably similor*, consisting of scrolled handles, escutcheons, chutes, toe mounts etc.  Original brown and grey mottled marble top.  [The two locks in the top drawers are missing]

*Similor was an alloy of bronze sometimes used in place of ormolu and bronze vernissé.
