Roman neoclassical candlestick with griffins attributed to Giuseppe Valadier
 

Neoclassical ormoulu and bronze patiné candlestick attributed to Giuseppe Valadier. Giuseppe, the son of Luigi Valadier (1725-1785) was born in 1762 and worked until 1839. The base is composed of three finely modelled patinated griffins; the shaft is decorated with three patinated satyr mascarons. The design appears to have been influenced by Piranesi. [Bun feet of a later date.]
