Sevres Plateau a jour

Fine Sèvres tray, plateau à jour, with a military trophy painted by Charles Buteux. The rectangular tray is framed by a reticulated border composed of Vitruvian scrolls issuing bellflowers. A green-ground border decorated with a gilded line and a meandering vine frames a beautiful military trophy by the great master of trophies at Sèvres, Charles Buteux, l’ainé. The polychrome trophy depicts military accoutrements consisting of a cuirass and helmet, drums, flags, and various weapons. The Sèvres crossed L mark is particularly well painted. [One corner scroll repaired.]
