Louis XV table mecanique signed Garnier

Louis XV tulipwood and amaranth table mécanique by Pierre Garnier. The exquisitely shaped writing table is veneered in tulipwood with the case’s subtle bombé curves emphasized by amaranth outlines. The serpentine sliding top is decorated with “S” and “C”-form scrolls of tulipwood framed by amaranth enclosing quartered and matched panels of tulipwood. A catch under the small drawer in the front frieze releases the spring-loaded top revealing a fitted pull-out interior. The interior section contains a central adjustable reading stand and two side compartments with outwardly opening hinged covers. The interiors of the side compartments are veneered in amaranth with a spring-loaded secret drawer in the back of the right compartment that is released by a catch cleverly hidden in the veneer on the lower right side. Exceptionally, the pull-out writing section is veneered on its outside surfaces. The table rests on four graceful six-sided cabriole legs with delicate sabots. The fine ormoulu mounts, with original gilding are slightly worn.
